Crochet Baby Hat Pattern

Here is a baby hat crochet pattern that turns out just as adorable as the baby wearing it. Of course, when you don't have a baby, a bear will have to do. :-)

Soft yarn and a couple of cute ruffles makes this baby hat crochet pattern one of the nicest ones around.

Materials

  • 3-ply baby yarn (any color plus white
  • 1/4" white ribbon, 24" long
  • crochet hook - size G

Instructions

Ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1 - Ch 3, 11 dc in ring. Join with a sl st in top of ch-3. (12 dc)

Round 2 - Ch 3, dc in same sp, 2 dc in each dc around. Join. (24 dc)

Round 3 - Repeat Round 2. (48 dc)

Round 4 - Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 2 (sc in next st, ch 2) around. Join with sl st in first sc. (48 ch-2 spaces)

Rounds 5 through 14 - Sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 2, (sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2) around. Join.

Round 15 - Sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 1, 2 sc in same sp, sc in each of next 3 ch-2 sps, (2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 3 ch-2 sps) around. Join. (60 sc)

Round 16 - Working in back loops of sc only (for this round only), ch 3, dc in each sc around. Join with sl st in top of ch-3.

Round 17 - Ch 3, dc in each st around. Join. Fasten off.

Round 18 - With white yarn, join with sc in first st, ch 4, (sc in next st, ch 4) around. Join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Round 19 - Moving back up to Round 16, and working in front loops only, repeat Round 18.

Finish

If necessary, knot both ends of the ribbon to keep it from unraveling. Weave the ribbon in and out of every other dc of Round 17. Once the hat is fitted on the baby's head, pull the ends of the ribbon snug and then tie the ends in a bow.
