CRAFT PROJECT

Crochet Carnations


The red carnation is made with regular yarn. Crochet thread was used for the pink carnation. You can make them fancier by using decorative sparkle yarns and threads. Be creative!

Materials

Red Carnation
4-oz yarn
crochet hook - size H
yarn needle

Pink Carnation
crochet thread - size 10
steel crochet hook - size 2
large-eye needle

Instructions

Chain 5. Slip stitch to form ring.

Round 1: Chain 3 (acts as first double crochet). 15 dc in ring. Join in 3rd chain of starting ch 3. (16 dc)

Round 2: Chain 3 (acts as first double crochet). Double crochet in join stitch. 2 dc in each double crochet all the way around. Join in 3rd chain of starting ch 3. (32 dc)

Round 3: Chain 3 (acts as first double crochet). Double crochet in join stitch. 2 dc in each double crochet all the way around. Join in 3rd chain of starting ch 3. (64 dc)

Round 4: Chain 3 (acts as first double crochet). Double crochet in join stitch. 2 dc in each double crochet all the way around. Join in 3rd chain of starting ch 3. (128 dc)

Round 4: Single crochet in join stitch. *Chain 3, sc in first dc. *Chain 3, sc in next dc. Repeat from * all the way around. End with slip stitch in first sc.

Finishing:

Working on the wrong side and using a needle, thread yarn or crochet thread through the bottom of each double crochet of Round 3 (Fig. 1). Pull yarn or thread snug to form the base of the flower (Fig. 2). Tie off. Bunch and shape the petals of the flower.
