CRAFT PROJECT

Crochet Jar Covers



Materials
  • yarn, sport yarn, or heavy crochet thread
  • crochet hook, size H
  • yarn needle (or similar large-eyed needle)
  • thin round elastic or elastic thread
  • 1/4" or 1/2" ribbon
  • glass jar with lid (pint, quart)


Instructions

V-st - Work (dc, ch 1, dc) in dc or space indicated.

Pint Size Jar Cover

Round 1: Ch 4, 11 dc in fourth chain from hook. Join with sl st at top of beginning chain.

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc all the way around. Join with sl st in top of beginning chain.

Round 3: Ch 4 (counts as first dc plus ch-1 space), dc in same st, skip next 2 dc, (work V-st in next dc, skip next 2 dc) all the way around. Join with slip st in third stitch of beginning chain.

Round 4: Sl st in first ch-1 space, ch 4, dc in same space, work V-st in each ch-1 space all the way around. Join with sl st to first dc.

Repeat Round 4 until piece reaches the top (neck/threads) of the jar.

Finish off.

Pint Size Lid Cover

Ch 5. Join with sl st to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 4, (dc in ring, ch 1) 11 times. Join with sl st in third chain of beginning ch-4.

Round 2: Ch 4, dc in first space, ch 1, *dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1. Repeat from * all the way around. Join with sl st in third chain of beginning ch-4.

Round 3: Sl st in first space, ch 4, (dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1) all the way around. Join with sl st in third chain of ch 4.

Round 4: Ch 4, dc in same st, work V-st in each dc around. Join with sl st in third chain of beginning ch-4.

Round 5: Sl st in first space, ch 5, dc in same space, (dc, ch 2, dc) in each ch-1 space all the way around. Join with sl st in third chain of beginning ch-5.

Finish off.


Quart Size Jar Cover

Round 6: Ch 4 (counts as first dc plus ch-1 space), dc in same st, skip next 2 dc, (work V-st in next dc, skip next 2 dc) all the way around. Join with slip st in third stitch of beginning chain.

Round 7: Sl st in first ch-1 space, ch 4, dc in same space, work V-st in each ch-1 space all the way around. Join with sl st to first dc.

Repeat Round 7 until piece reaches the top (neck/threads) of the jar.

Finish off.

Quart Size Lid Cover

Ch 5. Join with sl st to form a ring.

Round 5: Sl st in first space, ch 4, dc in same space, work V-st in each ch-1 space all the way around. Join with sl st in third chain of beginning ch-4.

Round 6: Sl st in first space, ch 5, dc in same space, (dc, ch 2, dc) in each ch-1 space all the way around. Join with sl st in third chain of beginning ch-5.

Round 7: Sl st in first space, ch 7, dc in same space, (dc, ch 4, dc) in each ch-2 space all the way around. Join with sl st in third chain of beginning ch-7.

Finish off.


Finish

Slip the cover over the jar. Thread elastic through the top stiches of the last round. Pull snug and then tie ends of elastic firmly. Trim elastic.

Working over and under, thread ribbon through the spaces in Round 5 of the lid cover. Place cover on jar lid, pull ribbon snug and then tie off in a bow. Trim ribbon.
