Easy Crochet Hat

easy crochet hat Believe it or not, this easy crochet hat is actually based on the pattern for the infant stocking cap. Just add a cuff and a frilly pom-pom and you've got a stunning grownup version!

Materials

• 4-oz yarn
• crochet hook - size H

Instructions

Special Stitch

Front Post Stitch (fp) - In double crochet, you work around the post of the dc in the previous row. Yarn over (yo) your crochet hook. Insert hook from front to back on right side of post, go behind post and then push hook out on left side of post. Yarn over and complete a double crochet as usual. see front post image

Instructions

Round 1 - ch 6, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 17 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of ch 3 (18 dc).

Round 2 - Ch 3, 2 dc in same space. *Fp around next dc, 3 dc in next dc. Repeat from * all the way around. End with fp around last dc. Join with slip stitch at top of beginning chain 3. (36 sts).

Round 3 - Ch 3, 2 dc in same space. *Fp around next dc, 3 dc in next dc, fp around next dc (lines up with fp from previous round), 3 dc in next dc. Repeat from * all the way around. End with fp around post of last dc. Join with slip stitch at top of beginning chain 3. (72 sts).

Round 4 thru 23: Ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dc. Fp around next dc (lines up with fp in previous round). *Dc in next 3 dc, fp around next dc (lines up with fp in previous round). Repeat from * all the way around. Join with slip stitch at top o beginning chain 3.

Round 24 - Sc in each st all the way around. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

NOTE: If your fp's do not line up row after row, you most likely missed one of the three dc that always come between each fp. (It's most common to miss the next/first dc directly after an fp.)

Pom Pom

Wrap yarn 75 times around a piece of stiff 4" cardboard. Gently slip it off the cardboard and tie it tightly in the middle. Clip all loops. Secure to the center top of the hat.
