Free Craft ProjectFourth of July Can CozyIt doesn't have to be the Fourth of July. This patriotic can cozy would brighten up any gathering or sports event. They're so easy and economical to create, you could even make money selling them at flea markets!
Materials:yarn - red, white, and blue crochet hook - size G (for the sleeve) crochet hook - size F (for the stars) tapestry or yarn needle Sleeve Start with red yarn. Chain 32. Row 1: Skip 1st chain from hook. Sc in each of the next 4 chains. 3 sc in next chain. Sc in each of next 4 chains. Skip next 2 chains. Sc in each of next 4 chains. 3 sc in next chain. Sc in each of next 4 chains. Skip next 2 chains. Sc in each of next 4 chains. 3 sc in next chain. Sc in each of next 4 chains. Chain 1, turn. Row 2: Skip 1st sc. Working in back looks only, sc in each of next 4 sc. 3 sc in next sc. Sc in each of next 4 sc. Skip next 2 sc. Sc in each of next 4 sc. 3 sc in next sc. Sc in each of next 4 sc. Skip next 2 sc. Sc in each of next 4 sc. 3 sc in next sc. Sc in each of next 4 sc (switching to the white yarn on the 4th sc). Chain 1, turn. Rows 3 and 4: Repeat rows 1 and 2, switching back to red yarn at the end of row 4. Chain 1, turn. Rows 5 and 6: Repeat rows 1 and 2, switching to blue yarn at the end of row 6. Chain 1, turn. Row 7: Skip 1st sc. Working in back loops of sc, sc in each of next 31 sc. Chain 1, turn. Row 8: Skip 1st sc. Working in both loops of sc, * sc in each of next 2 sc, sl st in each of next 3 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, skip next 2 sc. Repeat from * 1 time. Sc in each of next 2 sc, sl st in each of next 3 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc. Chain 1, turn. Row 9: Skip 1st sc. Sc in next 2 sc, sl st in next 3 sl sts, sc in next 4 sc, sl st in next 5 sts, sc in next 4 sc, sl st in next 4 sts, sc in next 2 sc. Row 10: Chain 1, turn (counts as 1st sc now and throughout). Skip 1st st. Sc in next 22 sts. Repeat Row 10 until the piece is about 1/2" shorter than the can you're covering.
Sew the side seams together to create a sleeve. Stars (make 3) Chain 2. Place 5 sc in second chain from hook (do not join). Sc in first of 5 sc (base sc). * Chain 3. Sl st in second chain from hook. Sc in next chain. Hdc in side of base sc. Sc in next sc. Repeat from * 3 times. Chain 3. Sl st in second chain from hook. Sc in next chain. Hdc in side of base sc. Sl st in first base sc to join. Fasten off. Sew the stars evenly spaced onto the blue part of the sleeve... ![]() Bottom Chain 2. Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st in first sc. Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in ea sc around. Join with sl st in first sc. (12 sc) Round 3: ch 1, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. Join with sl st in first sc. (18 sc) Round 4: ch 1, (sc in ea of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. Join with sl st in first sc. (24 sc) If you need to create additional rounds, simply add an additional sc in between increases. For example... Round 5: Ch 1, (sc in ea of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. Join with sl st in first sc. Round 6: Ch 1, (sc in ea of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. Join with sl st in first sc. Round 7: Ch 1, (sc in ea of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. Join with sl st in first sc.
Sew the bottom to the bottom edge of the sleeve.
