Crochet Pumpkin Placemat
This crochet pumpkin placemat is exactly what you need to dress up your holiday table. Or picnic table if you live in warm climate. ;) It's not a difficult project but you do need to keep a close eye on your rows so you can get just the right "pumpkin" shape.
Matierals
- yarn (orange, dark green)
- crochet hook - size H
Instructions
Pumpkin (orange)
Row 1 - Ch 31. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each remaining ch across. Ch 1, turn. (30 sc)
Rows 2 through 9 - 2 sc in first sc. Sc in each sc across to within last 2 sc. Skip 1 sc, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. (total 46 sc after completion of Row 9).
Row 10 - Sc in each sc all the way across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 11 - Repeat Row 2. (48 sc)
Row 12 - Repeat Row 10.
Row 13 - Repeat Row 2. (50 sc)
Row 14 through 18 - Repeat Row 10.
Row 19 - Repeat Row 2. (52 sc)
Rows 20 through 35 - Repeat Row 10.
Row 36 - Decrease 1 sc over the next 2 sc, sc in each sc across to within the last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (50 sc).
Rows 37 and 38 - Repeat Row 10.
Row 39 - Repeat Row 36. (48 sc).
Rows 40 and 41 - Repeat Row 10.
Row 42 - Repeat Row 36. (46 sc).
Rows 43 and 44 - Repeat Row 10.
Top Right-Hand Side
Row 45 - Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in next 16 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Row 46 - Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in next 14 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (16 sc).
Row 47 - Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc, hdc in next 4 sc, sc in next 4 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc. Fasten off. (14 sc)
Top Left-Hand Side
Row 48 - With finished top right-hand side to the right, skip next 5 sc sts, attach green yarn in next sc and loop through. Ch 1, decrease 1 sc over same sc as ch-1 and next sc, sc in next 17 sc, descrease 1 sc over next 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (19 sc)
Row 49 and 50 - Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in each sc across to within last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (15 sc)
Row 51 - Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 7 sc, sc in next 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (13 sc)
Row 52 - Sc evenly spaced all around the entire outer edge. Join and fasten off.
Stem
Row 1 - Attach green yarn in first sc at right-hand side of center. Draw look through, ch 1, sc across 8 sc. Ch 1, turn. (8 sc)
Row 2 - Sc in next 8 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3 - Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc across to within last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
Row 4 - Sc in next 6 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5 - Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to within last 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. (8 sc)
Rows 6 and 7 - Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 8 - Sc in each sc across top of stem working 3 sc in end sc. Sc in end of each row to bottom of stem. Sc in next orange sc. *Ch 1, sc in next sc. Repeat from * all the way around, working to bottom of stem on opposite side, ending with sc in last sc of orange. Sc in end of each row to top of stem, working 2 sc in top sc. Join. Ch 1, turn.
Row 9 - Work 3 sc in corner sc, sc down side of stem, skip first sc and ch-1 space, sc in next sc. *Ch 1, skip ch-1 of previous round, sc in next sc. Repeat from * all the way around to within last sc before stem. Skip first sc of stem, sc in remaining sc sts up side of stem, working 3 sc in center corner sc. Sc across top of stem. Join with sl st to center sc of corner. Fasten off.
Weave in all loose ends. Block lightly.
