Easy Crochet Christmas Stocking
Unlike the two-piece Christmas stocking, this crochet Christmas stocking is made with continuous rounds. It not only saves the time of sewing two sides together, it allows you to visually see the entire stocking taking shape.
Finished size measures 12-1/2" tall.
Materials
- yarn (white, green)
- crochet hooks, sizes G, H, and I
- yarn needle
Instructions
Starting with white yarn and size I crochet hook, chain 40. Join in first chain to form a ring.
Switch to size H crochet hook.
Row 1: Without turning, ch 1, sc in each ch. Sl st in ch-1 sp.
Row 2: Ch 1. sc in next 40 sc. Sl st in ch-1 space.
Rows 3 thru 5: Repeat from Row 2.
Row 6: Ch 1. Sc in next 40 sc. Switch to size G crochet hook. With green yarn, sl st in ch-1 space.
Rows 7 thru 28: Ch 1. Sc in next 40 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
NOTE: From this point on, it's more important to have the stocking take proper shape than to match the exact stitch count in the instructions. Use the stitch count as a guide, but if necessary adjust the number of green stitches to maintain the look of the heel, the toe, and the overall shape of the stocking.
Row 29: Ch 1. Sc in next 8 sc. With white, 2 sc in next 4 sc. With green, sc in next 18 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 7 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 30: Ch 1. Sc in next 7 sc. With white, sc in next 13 sc. With green, sc in next 17 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 8 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 31: Ch 1. Sc in next 5 sc. With white, sc in next 18 sc. With green, sc in next 15 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 9 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 32: Ch 1. Sc in next 4 sc. With white, sc in next 21 sc. With green, sc in next 14 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 10 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 33: Ch 1. Sc in next 5 sc. With white, sc in next 9 sc. Sc the next 2 stitches together (to do that, draw loops through the next 2 stitches and then draw yarn through all three loops). Sc in next 9 sc. With green, sc in next 16 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 10 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 34: Ch 1. Sc in next 5 sc. With white, sc in next 9 sc. Sc the next 2 stitches together. Sc in next 9 sc. With green, sc in next 17, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 10 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 35: Ch 1. Sc in next 6 sc. With white, sc in next 8 sc. Sc the next 2 stitches together. Sc in next 7 sc. With green, sc in next 19 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 11 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 36: Ch 1. Sc in next 8 sc. With white, sc in next 6 sc. Sc the next 2 stitches together. Sc in next 6 sc. With green, sc in next 20 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next 12 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 37: Ch 1. Sc in next 9 sc. With white, sc in next 5 sc. Sc the next 2 stitches together. Sc in next 5 sc. With green, sc in next 20 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next 13 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 38: Ch 1. Sc in next 11 sc. With white, sc in next 3 sc. Sc the next 2 stitches together. Sc in next 3 sc. With green, sc in next 22 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next 14 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 39: Ch 1. Sc in next 9 sc. Skip next 9 stitches, sc in next 23 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next 14 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 40: Ch 1. Sc in next 9 sc. Sc the next 2 stitches together. Sc in next 24 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next 15 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 41: Ch 1. Sc in next 8 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together (2 times), sc in next 40 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 42: Ch 1. Sc in next 7 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together (3 times), sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 43: Ch 1. Sc in next 12 sc. With white, sc in next 15 sc. With green, sc in next 9 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 44: Ch 1. Sc in next 16 sc. With white, sc in next 27 sc. With green, sc in next sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 45: Ch 1. Sc in next 7 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together, sc in next 3 sc. With white, sc in next 34 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 46: Ch 1. Sc all the way around, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 47: Ch 1. Sc in next 7 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together, sc in next 19 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together, sc in next 15 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 48: Ch 1. Sc in next 6 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together, sc in next 18 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together (2 times), sc in next 13 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Row 49: Ch 1. Sc in next 5 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together (2 times), sc in next 12 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together (5 times), sc in next 10 sc, sc the next 2 stitches together (5 times), sc in next 9 sc, sl st in ch-1 space.
Fasten off.
Finishing
Turn the piece inside out. Sew the heel and toe openings. Weave in all the ends. Turn right side out and fold down the cuff.
